Rock Climbing isn’t Fitness?

I stumbled across this article which says “rock climbing isn’t fitness”.  According to Professor Watts, “If they sustain the climb for long enough, they are able to sustain an aerobic training effect.  But sustaining that energy output might be difficult.”

You don’t say?

I know rock climbing isn’t aerobic and I certainly didn’t need a study to tell me that either.  Rock climbing is just a fun way to do some resistance training and to tone up your muscles.  I was well aware of that back in the days when I climbed and I knew that I desperately needed to work on my cardio fitness.  I never did because there wasn’t really much time after work and climbing, but that’s beside the point.
